    Description

Summary of outcomes for Data Standard 2.1

      • Problem Addressed: There is not currently a StaffClassificationDescriptor value that is appropriate for LEA IT administrators.
      • High-level Reasoning: There is a growing number of technical professionals in many education organizations, but there isn't currently a StaffClassificationDescriptor value that can appropriately accommodate the nature of that classification. Additionally, there are some dashboard claims that include higher privileges for staff in this category. The current dashboard workarounds are not ideal.
      • Changes Made: Added enumeration "LEA System Administrator" to StaffClassificationDescriptor map type and to StaffClassificationDescriptor sample file

      Original ticket description follows:

The data standard v1.2 had Staff Classification core type of "LEA System Administrator" to support dashboard claims assigned to certain staff which includes higher privileges for IT Administrators.

      Current workarounds:

      1. Data Standard Descriptor files: The "LEA System Administrator" Core type was removed
in v2.0 and the workaround was to create a Descriptor "LEA System Administrator" and map it to Core Type "School Specialist"

      2. Dashboards Compatibility views: Added the hard coded value "LEA System Administrator" to the VIEW [ods].[StaffClassificationType]
        https://github.com/Ed-Fi-Technology-Exchange/Dashboard-Compatibility-Views/blob/master/Database/Structure/EdFi/0002-Create%20ODS%20Views%20for%20Type%20Tables.sql

The existing core types cover mainly school staff categories, and the proposed mapping for System administrators is not ideal. There is a need to provide a category for system administrators/IT staff that usually implies access to additional IT resources that existing categories do not need.
