Description
Early Childhood Outcomes are now collected through an application on a DPI Special Education Web Portal, where LEAs report entry and exit outcome ratings for all children in grades prekindergarten and four-year-old kindergarten receiving special education and related services through an individualized education program (IEP).
States must collect data on child and family outcomes linked to other demographic information, service, and systems data. This data collection is not unique to Wisconsin; however, the WI DPI Special Education Team wants to move the collections for Indicator 7: Early Childhood Outcomes into the WISEdata API by the upcoming 2023-24 SY.
On the Ed-Fi exchange, it appears that Arizona has extended the /studentSpecialEducationProgramAssociation (SSEPA) endpoint to collect early childhood outcomes, and that Minnesota has added the /studentEarlyChildhoodScreeningProgramAssociation endpoint.
We are considering creating a new endpoint ‘PreschoolOutcomes’ or ‘ChildOutcomes’, but we wanted to learn more about how the other Ed-Fi States are collecting this data, and whether they have any lessons they have learned that they can share.
There are 3 Child Outcomes: 1) Positive social-emotional skills; 2) Acquiring and using knowledge skills; and 3) Taking appropriate actions to meet needs, and each has an entry rating scale of 1-7, and an exit rating scale of 1-7. Here are the data elements we need to collect from the SPED/SIS products:
- social entry score (1-7)
- social exit score (1-7)
- knowledge entry score (1-7)
- knowledge exit score (1-7)
- actions entry score (1-7)
- actions exit score (1-7)
- social - did the child change their change growth trajectory? (Y/N)
- knowledge - did the child change their change growth trajectory? (Y/N)
- actions - did the child change their change growth trajectory? (Y/N)
We appreciate your insight.
Thanks!
