Description
Summary of outcomes for Data Standard 2.1
- Problem Addressed: LanguageMap type contains only three values that are of limited value.
- High-level Reasoning: The LanguageMap type contains only three values (English, Spanish, and Other). Rather than expand the values to be more consistent with the full list of available language options, the map type may be removed and the sample descriptor file updated to include the full array of options (per ISO).
- Changes Made: Removed the LanguageMap from the LanguageDescriptor; Updated the LanguageDescriptor sample xml file to include ISO 639-3 codes
Original ticket description follows:
If an application wants to map to LangaugeMapTypes in Ed-Fi, that application is limited to three base types: English, Spanish and Other
The proposal is to adopt a standard enumeration for the base types, such as ISO 639-3 standard, wich is what CEDS uses (see: https://ceds.ed.gov/iso639-3LanguageCode.aspx).
