    Description

Summary of outcomes for Data Standard 2.1

      • Problem Addressed: The model only allows for one section or program enrollment to be associated with a StudentLearningObjective or a StudentCompetencyObjective.
      • High-level Reasoning: In practice, a student's learning objective or competency objective may be related to multiple sections in which they are enrolled or multiple programs in which they are enrolled. However, both StudentLearningObjective and StudentCompetencyObjective include an optional reference to a choice (StudentLearningObjectiveSectionOrProgramChoice and StudentCompetencyObjectiveSectionOrProgramChoice) that only allow for either one StudentSectionAssociation or one StudentProgramAssociation record to be associated.
      • Changes Made: Updated the cardinality of StudentSectionAssociation and StudentProgramAssociation references in the StudentLearningObjectiveSectionOrProgramChoice and the StudentComptencyObjectiveSectionOrProgramChoice choice types to be a required collection

      Original ticket description follows:

The gap is that there is a suggestion that in some cases a StudentLearningObjective may be derived from multiple Sections.

This was reported by Powerschool, who noted:

In PowerSchool, objectives are defined at the district level and may or may not be associated with a section. In Ed-Fi the section reference is optional in the API[...] This indicates we can publish student scores on objectives whether or not they are associated with a section - which is good. However, a standard may also be associated with multiple sections. When a student receives scores from multiple sections for the same objective and grading period, a composite record is created with both the average and highest score. This composite record does not include a section reference since it does not apply to any one section.
