Data Standard v2.0

Description
Summary of outcomes for Data Standard 2.1
- Problem Addressed: The data standard does not currently accommodate the situation in which a student takes a course via an external EducationOrganization (like an enrolled student taking a Khan Academy course).
- High-level Reasoning: CourseTranscript currently allows for an optional School to be referenced, but this does not accommodate the use case in which the instruction is provided by an external education organization.
- Changes Made: Added optional reference to EducationOrganization on CourseTranscript with context "External"; Removed optional School reference from CourseTranscript
Original ticket description follows:
While StudentAcademicRecord doesn't link directly to sessions, CourseTranscript requires direct linkages to Courses, while the data model and ODS make no real allowances for historical courses--courses with the same course number could differ from year to year with regard to number of credits available, grades served, etc. This forces historical course transcript records to be tied to current courses (or to manufacture year-specific course numbers) and/or for current courses to be expanded to include historical course numbers. Either CourseTranscript should capture pertinent course information internally rather than linking to courses, or the ability to store historical variations of Courses needs to be introduced.
